Sailing as Therapy for Adults with Psychiatric Disorders in Seine-Saint-Denis Psychosocial Rehabilitation Using Sailing Activities Evaluation of Sailings Impact on Mental Well-being and Quality of Life

Researchers are exploring the use of sailing as a therapeutic activity integrated into psychosocial rehabilitation for adults living with severe psychological or neurodevelopmental disorders. This study aims to evaluate the impact of sailing on psychosocial rehabilitation outcomes and aligns with the national Sport Sant plan, which promotes sport as a therapeutic approach. The project is a partnership between the Ville-Evrard hospital and a local sailing committee to enhance care options for people with psychiatric disorders in Seine-Saint-Denis. Participants are divided into two groups one group takes part in sailing activities consisting of 10 sessions over two periods each year March to June and August to November, while the control group receives standard psychosocial rehabilitation care without sailing. The study is non-randomized and behavioral in nature, comparing outcomes between those who engage in sailing and those who do not. Throughout the study, researchers will assess quality of life, mental well-being, and self-esteem using standardized scales at three time points before the sailing program starts, immediately after completion, and three months later. The study will monitor participants over these periods to understand the lasting effects of sailing on psychosocial health. Participation includes regular sailing sessions or rehabilitation care, with evaluations conducted at specified intervals to measure impact and safety.
