This research aims to evaluate a guaranteed income (GI) intervention targeting people living with HIV who have recent criminal legal involvement (PWH-CLI). This group faces higher HIV prevalence and unique challenges after jail release, leading to difficulties in maintaining HIV care. The study investigates the acceptability, feasibility, and preliminary effects of GI on improving HIV care outcomes in this population, comparing three ways the GI is given and using historical controls to assess impact. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of three groups: receiving the full GI amount of $6,750 as a one-time lump sum, receiving it as nine monthly payments of $750, or choosing their preferred method. The study also offers optional financial mentoring sessions during the trial. Data on clinical appointments and viral load will be collected from medical records, and participants will complete three surveys and interviews to share their experiences and perspectives. Throughout the study, participants will be monitored for HIV care engagement and viral suppression over nine months. Researchers will assess linkage to care within one month of enrollment, retention in care, and viral suppression at nine months. The study includes interviews with patients and system partners to understand barriers and opportunities for GI implementation. Total participation involves surveys, interviews, and medical record reviews, with outcomes compared to a matched historical group without GI.
