What this Trial Is About
Hand injuries and diseases are common causes of hospital visits and lead to significant loss of hand function and work ability. This research aims to study the impact of mobile game applications on rehabilitation outcomes for patients who have lost thumb function. The thumb is especially important for hand skills, and restoring its function requires intensive rehabilitation beyond clinic sessions, including home exercises with better adherence. Participants will be randomly assigned to either receive routine treatment, which includes classical massage, stretching, functional exercises, electrical and thermal therapies, and home exercises, or the same routine treatment plus daily 20-30 minutes of mobile game play as part of their home exercise program. Popular mobile games like Temple Run, Flappy Bird, and Angry Birds may be used. This study will compare the two groups to see if mobile games improve rehabilitation results. During the study, researchers will evaluate pain, edema, thumb joint movement, upper limb function, daily living activities, and adherence to home exercises at weekly intervals up to four weeks. Assessments include the Quick-DASH questionnaire, Duruöz Hand Index, visual pain scales, and range of motion measurements. The total study duration spans from the first to fourth week, with ongoing tracking of home exercise adherence. The study plans to enroll 38 patients aged 18 to 65 with thumb injuries.
