What this Trial Is About
This research aims to develop and test a scalable, integrated platform designed to improve how patients make informed decisions about vaccines and to increase vaccine uptake. The study involves collaboration among vaccine safety experts and clinical informatics specialists to create a technology that provides tailored vaccine messaging and supports vaccine discussions between patients or parents and healthcare providers. The goal is to improve vaccination rates by integrating patient- and provider-facing decision support directly into electronic health records (EHR). The study includes several groups based on patient birthdates and access to a patient portal called MYchart. Some parents will receive tailored vaccine messaging videos through the LetsTalkShots platform linked to their appointment reminders, which also share relevant talking points with healthcare providers. Providers will have opportunities to participate in training sessions on vaccine communication. Control groups will receive standard appointment reminders with vaccine information but no decision support integration. The study will evaluate the platform's effectiveness by comparing vaccination rates at the time of the appointment. Participants will be parents of patients with upcoming appointments at a specific primary care clinic who have access to contact information in the EHR. The study will monitor vaccination rates, days patients are undervaccinated, and how often patients and providers engage with the messaging system over time. The study will use statistical methods to assess the impact of the integrated platform on vaccination behavior. Participation involves receiving appointment reminders, possibly viewing tailored videos, and providers accessing talking points to support vaccine discussions during visits.
