What this Trial Is About
Researchers are studying how a new hospital program called the Culture Care program affects the mobility of patients after thoracic or abdominal surgery. The program aims to create a more attractive and stimulating hospital environment using art and culture, which may help reduce sedentary behavior after surgery. The study compares patients before and after the program's implementation to see if it increases mobility and impacts recovery. The study includes two groups of patients: those receiving standard care in a conventional hospital environment and those in a hospital environment enhanced by the Culture Care program. Both groups receive early mobilization as prescribed by physicians following ERAS guidelines. The program adds interactive art displays, musical content, and audio podcasts accessible via headphones to improve the hospital experience. Healthcare workers in both environments will also participate by completing surveys about their readiness to encourage patient mobility. Participants will wear accelerometers for the first five days after surgery to measure their movement, including time spent out of bed and number of steps. They will complete questionnaires about their psychological well-being, physical recovery, and perception of mobility. Researchers will assess various outcomes such as recovery quality, complications, length of hospital stay, and adverse events. Healthcare workers will provide feedback before and after the program. The study includes both quantitative data collection and qualitative interviews to understand experiences, with participation lasting from surgery through hospital discharge.
