AI-Summary

What this Trial Is About

This research aims to understand how the number of "likes" on social media food ads affects food choices among Black and White adolescents aged 13 to 17. The study also explores how attention to ads featuring people of the same or different race influences these food purchases. It is a randomized trial sponsored by NYU Langone Health focusing on food selection behaviors in teenagers. Participants will be randomly assigned to view different food advertisements that vary by the number of "likes" and whether they feature Black or White individuals. The study groups include ads with many or few "likes" featuring either Black or White people. These behavioral interventions are designed to assess visual attention and the impact of social media feedback on food purchase decisions. During the study visit, participants will view the ads and their food purchases will be measured by the number of calories purchased within about 5 minutes. Researchers will also assess participants' attitudes and engagement with the ads during this time. This single-day participation involves brief evaluations to capture immediate responses to the advertisements and their influence on food choices.
