What this Trial Is About
This research aims to compare how much low dose radioactive iodine is absorbed by the thyroid area in patients with differentiated thyroid carcinoma after they follow a low iodine diet (LID) for 7 days. Differentiated thyroid carcinoma is a common form of thyroid cancer treated with thyroid removal followed by radioactive iodine therapy. The study focuses on measuring iodine uptake before and after the diet to understand if the LID affects iodine absorption. Participants will follow a low iodine diet that limits iodine intake to less than 50 micrograms per day before receiving low dose radioactive iodine (either 10 MBq or 37 MBq of 123-I). The study involves a single group where patients act as their own comparison, with iodine uptake measured twice: once before and once after the diet. Some patients will receive two doses and urine collections, while others receive one dose, based on their risk category. During the study, patients will visit the medical center for iodine administration, iodine uptake scans, blood sampling, and 24-hour urine collections. Researchers will measure the change in iodine absorption and monitor safety risks, such as radiation exposure and blood sampling effects. The study will last through the treatment and follow-up visits, with no direct benefits expected for participants but important knowledge gained for future care.
