AI-Summary

What this Trial Is About

This research aims to study tissue-resident cells taken from various musculoskeletal and related connective tissues such as cartilage, synovial membrane, synovial fluid, bone, adipose tissue, and tendons. The goal is to better understand these cells to find new ways to treat degenerative and inflammatory musculoskeletal diseases. The study will compare cells from different tissue sources by analyzing their characteristics and how they respond to inflammatory elements, drugs, and orthobiologics. Researchers will also look for markers that might predict how well treatments work by linking cell properties with patients' clinical profiles. The study involves collecting tissue samples from patients undergoing elective surgeries like joint replacements, anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, or rotator cuff repair at the IRCCS Istituto Ortopedico Galeazzi. These samples will be cultured and treated in the lab to assess their features and reactions. There is no specific treatment or intervention administered to participants since this is an observational study focused on cell analysis. Participants will be adults aged 18 years or older who are scheduled for qualifying surgeries and can provide informed consent. Researchers will collect tissue during surgery and perform laboratory studies on the isolated cells. The main outcome measured is the correlation between patients' age and the number of cells obtained over a period of five years. The study will monitor patient data and cell characteristics to enhance understanding of musculoskeletal disease mechanisms and potential treatment markers.
