Comparing iStent Inject and Kahook Dual Blade Goniotomy with Cataract Surgery for Open-Angle Glaucoma and Ocular Hypertension

What this Trial Is About

Researchers are studying the effectiveness of cataract surgery combined with either Kahook Dual Blade Glide goniotomy KDB or iStent Inject W Trabecular Microbypass Stent iStent in patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension who also have significant cataracts. The study aims to compare these two procedures in managing intraocular pressure and reducing the need for pressure-lowering medications over a 12-month period. Participants are randomly assigned to one of two groups one group receives cataract surgery combined with KDB goniotomy, where the KDB glide is used through the temporal cataract incision. The other group has cataract surgery combined with implantation of two iStent devices injected into Schlemms canal through the same incision. The study is single-masked and involves equal numbers of patients in each group. Throughout the study, participants will have their intraocular pressure measured using Goldmann applanation tonometry and medication use tracked from enrollment through 12 months of follow-up. Researchers will monitor the number of patients achieving specific intraocular pressure targets and assess the change in medication needs. The total involvement includes assessments at baseline and regular follow-ups to evaluate treatment effects and safety.
