What this Trial Is About

This research aims to compare two minimally invasive surgical methods for adrenalectomy: laparoscopic and robotic lateral transabdominal adrenalectomy. Both procedures are standard care options for removing adrenal tumors. The study seeks to assess differences in patient outcomes and surgeon efficiency to help improve care and optimize resource use in adrenal surgery. Participants will undergo either laparoscopic or robotic adrenalectomy, with 27 patients assigned to each group through randomization. Laparoscopic surgery uses straight instruments with two-dimensional video guidance, while robotic surgery involves wristed instruments and a three-dimensional video system. This single-center trial is conducted at a high-volume adrenal surgery program with expertise in both techniques. During the study, researchers will measure the time from skin incision to closure as the primary outcome. Secondary outcomes include conversion rates between approaches, postoperative pain scores, hospital stay length, and cost. Participants will be closely monitored throughout their hospital stay and recovery, with assessments occurring at specified time points. The study will help clarify the advantages and challenges of each surgical method over the course of treatment and recovery.
