What this Trial Is About
Researchers are evaluating the effects of a diet and exercise program on adults aged 50 years and older who have obesity and insulin resistance. The study aims to find out if following a structured nutrition plan combined with supervised exercise for 12 weeks can reduce fat mass, improve muscle function, and increase energy deficit compared to usual diet and exercise habits. This trial focuses on adults with a body mass index of 30 or higher and insulin resistance, addressing the challenge of muscle impairment combined with obesity, a common issue in older adults. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of two groups one receiving a structured nutrition plan along with supervised aerobic and resistance exercise three times per week, and the other continuing their usual diet and exercising under supervision. All meals will be provided for 12 weeks during the intervention. The study measures changes in body fat, muscle mass, lower-extremity function, muscle strength, and energy balance before and after the 12-week period. During the study, participants will be assessed for body composition, physical function using the Short Physical Performance Battery, handgrip and knee strength, and daily caloric intake. Researchers will monitor changes from baseline to 12 weeks to evaluate the impact of the interventions. The study is designed as a randomized, triple-blind trial with 80 participants, lasting from July 2026 to December 2030, with ongoing safety and functional assessments throughout the 12-week intervention period.
