What this Trial Is About
Researchers are exploring dietary habits, nutrition knowledge, and body composition in Italian athletes and physically active adults through this observational study. The study aims to assess adherence to the Mediterranean Diet, evaluate nutrition knowledge, compare current dietary intake and eating habits to recommendations based on the sport practiced, and assess eating behavior. This nonprofit research is designed to improve clinical practice by understanding nutrition and lifestyle factors in this population. Participants will undergo several assessments at the University of Pavia's Laboratory of Nutrition Education and Sports Nutrition. These include measuring weight, height, body circumferences, skinfold thickness, and body composition using Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis. Resting Metabolic Rate is measured by indirect calorimetry in a fasted, rested state. Dietary intake is assessed through a food frequency questionnaire and a 7-day food diary. Nutrition knowledge, adherence to the Mediterranean Diet, eating attitudes, sleep quality, and physical activity levels are also evaluated using validated questionnaires. During the study, participants provide baseline data on general information such as age, gender, lifestyle, and weight history. The research team collects detailed anthropometric and metabolic data, dietary habits, and lifestyle behaviors. The primary outcome is assessing adherence to the Mediterranean Diet. Secondary outcomes include nutrition knowledge, dietary intake relative to sport type, and eating behavior assessments. The study lasts from screening through baseline evaluations, with no treatment intervention, focusing on observation and data collection.
