What this Trial Is About

Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death worldwide, and advanced cardiac imaging using Magnetic Resonance Imaging MRI offers detailed tissue characterization without exposure to radiation. This research aims to study cardiac microstructure using novel MRI techniques that reveal deep tissue features like inflammation, fibrosis, metabolism, and structural defects. Investigators want to understand these features in both patients with cardiovascular disease and healthy individuals, comparing them with traditional clinical markers. Participants will either undergo an extended clinical cardiac MRI exam lasting about one hour, which includes an added research protocol, or a non-contrast research cardiac MRI lasting one to two hours. Healthy volunteers will have only one non-contrast cardiac MRI. Optionally, participants may provide blood samples to correlate blood biomarkers with MRI findings. Blood draws take about 20 minutes and are stored securely for up to 10 years for future research. During the study, participant medical records may be reviewed for up to five years after enrollment to monitor health status. The primary measurement is myocardial microstructure assessed by advanced MRI at each research scan. This observational study involves minimal intervention, focusing on imaging and blood sample collection, with participant involvement spanning the MRI exams and long-term follow-up through medical record review.
