What this Trial Is About

Hospitalized patients with respiratory complications often face challenges in receiving tailored physiotherapy due to limited accessible and reliable diagnostic tools. This research evaluates the usefulness of point-of-care lung ultrasound (LUS) in improving physiotherapists' treatment plans for patients admitted to a general ward who have acute respiratory symptoms. The study aims to compare treatment decisions made before and after incorporating LUS findings to assess its impact. The study involves assessing patients with acute respiratory symptoms who are hospitalized and have a chest X-ray performed within 24 hours before or after the LUS. Physiotherapists first make an initial clinical assessment and treatment plan, followed by a reassessment immediately after using LUS to determine any changes. The primary outcome is the percentage change in treatment plans before and after the LUS evaluation, with a secondary outcome comparing findings from LUS and chest X-rays. Participants will be observed during their hospital stay in the general ward, where clinical assessments, lung ultrasounds, and chest X-rays take place. Researchers will collect data on treatment plan changes within a 10-minute interval surrounding the LUS use. The study also evaluates how closely LUS findings match chest X-ray observations. Participation involves no experimental treatment but focuses on data collection and monitoring during standard physiotherapy care.
