What this Trial Is About
Researchers are studying menstrual cycle symptoms and their impact on physical and mental health in women aged 18 to 45. This observational study aims to better understand the prevalence of symptoms like premenstrual syndrome, menstrual pain, and other menstrual-related discomforts, as well as subclinical ovulatory disturbances that often go undiagnosed. The project involves multiple universities and international institutions and seeks to improve knowledge about womens health to support better healthcare policies and education. Participants will complete various questionnaires including the Daily Record of Severity of Problems, Menstrual Distress Questionnaire, SAMANTA Bleeding Questionnaire, and others related to quality of life and mental health. Urine ovulation tests will monitor ovulation, and a subsample will have additional assessments like bone mineral density scans and blood tests for sex hormones and health biomarkers. Data will be collected daily, especially around menstrual bleeding and ovulation days, over an average of three months. During the study, participants will track menstrual symptoms and distress through daily and baseline questionnaires. Researchers will assess hormone levels at multiple points in the menstrual cycle and gather blood samples for metabolic and inflammatory markers. Bone density will be measured at baseline in some participants. The study will evaluate symptom severity, menstrual distress, dysmenorrhea interference, and quality of life measures. Participation lasts around three months, with daily symptom tracking and hormone monitoring during each menstrual cycle.
