What this Trial Is About

Researchers are evaluating an App-based intervention called CANQUIT designed to help young adults reduce or quit regular cannabis use. This study aims to measure the effectiveness and cost-efficiency of this digital program at short-term (1 month) and long-term (3 and 6 months) follow-ups using 120 participants aged 18 to 30 years. The goal is to provide evidence that can guide policies to reduce the negative physical and mental health impacts of cannabis use in young adults in Spain. The CANQUIT program is a 4-week digital cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT)-based intervention, available on both iOS and Android. Participants will be randomly assigned to either the experimental group, which receives the app-assisted CBT intervention including seven weekly modules covering psychoeducation, emotional regulation, behavioral activation, and relapse prevention, or to the control group, which receives an app-assisted self-help guide with cannabis-related information. Both groups will track cannabis use and complete follow-up assessments through the app. Participants will engage in daily self-reporting of cannabis consumption and complete follow-ups at 1, 3, and 6 months after starting the program. The study will assess cannabis abstinence, reduction, and acceptability of the intervention, as well as changes in substance use, cannabis-related problems, and emotional disorder risks. The app includes gamification and social support features to encourage adherence, and all progress is monitored remotely through the digital platform.
