Population aging is a significant global challenge, with 1.6 billion people expected to be over 65 by 2050. Aging is the main risk factor for many chronic diseases, including Alzheimers disease AD. Hong Kong, with one of the highest life expectancies and a large elderly population, faces a heavy burden of dementia care. This community-based study aims to establish a cohort of elderly individuals in Hong Kong, focusing on early detection of Alzheimers and related cognitive conditions through clinical, cognitive, biomarker, and neuroimaging measures.

Duration - 2 to 4 weeks
Participants are screened for eligibility to participate in the trial.
Duration - Initial visit
Participants undergo clinical, cognitive, and functional assessments, along with blood sampling and demographic data collection at local community centers.
1 visit (in-person)
Duration - At baseline and follow-up
A subset of participants will have blood analyzed for proteomic biomarkers and some will undergo advanced imaging with MRI and PET scans to assess brain changes related to cognitive status.
1 to 2 visits depending on subgroup
Duration - Approximately 24 to 36 months
Participants are followed for 2 to 3 years with repeated assessments including cognitive tests, blood biomarker measurements, and imaging to monitor changes over time.
