AI-Summary

What this Trial Is About

Researchers are conducting a non-interventional study in South-East Austria to assess the number of people with untreated or unknown Hepatitis B virus HBV, Hepatitis D virus HDV, and Hepatitis C virus HCV infections. The study aims to identify individuals unaware of their infection or coinfection status who are not yet linked to care. It includes a retrospective data analysis and a prospective linkage-to-care phase to improve treatment access and outcomes. The study has two parts First, a retrospective analysis of nucleic acid testing results for HCV RNA, HBV DNA, and HDV serology from 2014 to 2023 will identify eligible patients. Second, two cohorts HCV and HBV will be formed and invited to routine clinical assessments and care visits. The HCV cohort will undergo laboratory evaluations, liver stiffness measurement, and counseling, with treatment offered to those with detectable HCV RNA. The HBV cohort will be evaluated for HDV coinfection and linked to care, with treatment decisions made according to clinical guidelines and individual preferences. Participants will be contacted to invite them to medical assessments as part of routine care, where laboratory tests, virologic monitoring, and liver evaluations occur. Researchers will collect data on linkage-to-care outcomes, treatment initiation, and virological responses, including sustained virological response SVR for HCV. The study ends with linkage-to-care, and treatment outcomes will be assessed retrospectively. The study period extends through October 2026.
