Improving Clear Aligner Treatment with Remote Dental Monitoring and AI Technology

Researchers are evaluating the use of Remote Dental Monitoring Dental Monitoring combined with artificial intelligence algorithms to customize the timing of clear aligner changes in orthodontic treatment. The study aims to improve treatment efficiency by reducing in-office visits and treatment duration while maintaining treatment quality and patient satisfaction. The trial compares this novel approach to conventional treatment schedules with fixed aligner replacement intervals. Participants are divided into three groups one receiving aligner treatment monitored remotely via the Dental Monitoring app, which uses 3D tracking of tooth movement from patient-uploaded scans and two control groups receiving conventional aligner treatment with aligners replaced every 7 days or every 14 days, both with standard in-office visits every 8 weeks. Patients in the experimental group are trained to use the app and perform remote scans with their smartphones. During the study, participants undergo orthodontic treatment lasting between 6 and 30 months. Researchers assess outcomes such as the number of aligner trays completed with adequate fit, number of refinements or midcourse corrections, rate of aligner replacement, treatment effectiveness, and patient satisfaction. The study also evaluates cost-effectiveness and monitors tooth movement using standardized orthodontic indices. Safety and treatment quality are continuously observed throughout the trial.
