What this Trial Is About
Researchers are studying a pain coping skills training program designed for older adults with mild to moderate dementia who experience pain and live at home with a family caregiver. The study aims to improve how patients learn and use pain management strategies by involving their caregivers. It also seeks to help caregivers better understand and manage the patient's pain, as well as cope with the stress of caregiving. Participants will receive five sessions, each lasting 45 to 60 minutes, delivered over six to eight weeks via videoconference with a trained therapist. The training focuses on teaching caregivers to recognize pain signs, especially nonverbal cues, and coach patients in using coping techniques during challenging activities. The therapist also supports both patient and caregiver in practicing skills regularly and overcoming difficulties. During the study, assessments will be conducted before and after the intervention, including surveys on satisfaction, quality of life, pain levels, caregiver confidence, and patient behaviors. Sessions will be audio recorded to monitor progress. The primary outcome is participant satisfaction, measured about eight weeks after the program. The total study duration includes these sessions and follow-up evaluations, with caregivers and patients participating together throughout.
