What this Trial Is About

This research aims to understand how common ovarian conditions affect the number and quality of ovarian follicles as well as the reproductive potential of the ovary in girls and young women. The study focuses on females aged 0 to 18 years who are having surgery on their ovaries for conditions such as ovarian cysts, masses, or torsion. The goal is to collect and study ovarian tissue samples to better comprehend these effects. Participants will undergo their scheduled or emergency ovarian surgery, such as oophorectomy or ovarian cystectomy, as part of their usual care. During the surgery, any ovarian tissue that would normally be discarded will be collected for the ovarian tissue library. No extra tissue will be taken, and no additional procedures will be performed for the study. Throughout the study, researchers will log the age, gender, and diagnosis of each participant alongside the collected tissue samples. The study will monitor ovarian tissue banking from October 2016 through December 2030. Participants will not need to attend extra visits or treatments beyond their planned surgery, and the study will not influence their regular medical care.
