Wheezing is a common symptom in preschool children, affecting about one-third of kids in their first three years. This study aims to better understand the different types of wheezing by closely examining the exact sounds described by parents and observed by clinicians. Since wheezing can have many causes, the study focuses on identifying the specific wheezing phenotypes to help guide appropriate treatment strategies. It highlights that not all wheezing is due to bronchospasm and that some types may not respond to typical treatments like bronchodilators. The research is observational and involves children aged 2 to 6 years who have recurrent wheezing. Participants will be grouped based on different wheezing-related conditions, such as bronchial asthma, chronic aspiration, primary ciliary dyskinesia, and cystic fibrosis. The study includes chest X-rays to look for signs like bronchial thickening or collapsing lung lobes that may explain the wheezing causes. Children in the study will undergo assessments including lung function tests, specifically measuring forced expiratory volume over six months. Researchers will collect clinical data and imaging results to analyze the wheezing patterns and underlying causes. The study is sponsored by Sohag University and will run until April 2025, providing valuable insights into wheezing in young children and helping to improve diagnosis and care.
