What this Trial Is About
Researchers are evaluating the effects of a 6-week polarized aerobic training program on vascular and cardiorespiratory function in sedentary adults aged 30 to 50 years who are apparently healthy. Polarized training involves mostly low-intensity aerobic exercise combined with a smaller amount of high-intensity interval exercise. While this type of training is well studied in athletes, its impact on vascular function in sedentary adults is not well understood, making this study important for cardiovascular health prevention. Participants will be randomly assigned to either a supervised polarized aerobic training group or a non-exercising control group. The training involves three weekly sessions on a cycle ergometer combining low-to-moderate continuous exercise and high-intensity interval training, individually prescribed based on ventilatory thresholds from cardiopulmonary exercise testing. The control group will maintain their usual sedentary lifestyle during the 6-week period. Training intensity will be monitored and sessions supervised by trained personnel. During the study, participants will undergo comprehensive baseline and post-intervention assessments including vascular function tests such as brachial artery flow-mediated dilation and pulse wave velocity, cardiorespiratory fitness tests, muscle function, pulmonary and respiratory muscle evaluations, and blood biomarker analysis. Monitoring includes ambulatory blood pressure and physical activity tracking. All measurements will be done under standardized conditions, and outcomes will provide insights into vascular and systemic adaptations to polarized aerobic training in sedentary adults.
