Predictive Model to Identify Mortality Risk in Critically Ill Patients Aged 75 and Older

Researchers are developing a predictive model to identify elderly patients aged 75 or older who have the highest risk of mortality when admitted to an intensive care unit ICU with critical illness. This observational study focuses on patients admitted from the Emergency Department and aims to improve understanding of factors that influence survival outcomes in this vulnerable population. The study involves analyzing laboratory biomarker results as predictors of mortality. Patients are observed without any interventional treatment assigned by the study, and data collection occurs during their ICU stay. The primary outcome measured is mortality at 90 days after ICU admission. Participants will provide informed consent, or a legal representative will do so if necessary. Researchers will collect clinical and laboratory data, monitor patient status during ICU admission, and follow up to assess survival at 90 days. The study excludes patients transferred from hospital wards, those who die within 24 hours of ICU admission, and those admitted to Step-Down Units or meeting certain medical criteria. Participation lasts through the ICU stay and follow-up period until the 90-day mortality outcome is recorded.
