Study of Preoperative Oral Nutrition Support on Stability and Outcomes in Frail Elderly Patients With Femur Fractures

This observational study focuses on elderly patients aged 65 and older who have femur fractures combined with a high frailty index. Researchers want to understand if giving preoperative oral nutrition support can improve clinical outcomes such as hemodynamic stability during and after surgery, reduce postoperative complications, mortality, and shorten hospital stays in this vulnerable population. Participants are observed in two groups based on routine clinical practice one group receives standard preoperative oral nutritional supplements recommended by the hospital nutrition clinic while staying in the orthopedic ward, and the other group continues their usual diet without additional nutritional support. No interventions are assigned by the investigators. Hemodynamic parameters and other health measurements are recorded during surgery and postoperative care. Throughout the study, participants will have anthropometric measurements like arm and waist circumference, laboratory values, and outcomes such as morbidity, mortality, ICU stay length, and total hospital stay tracked. Follow-ups occur at 30 and 90 days after surgery to monitor complications and survival. The study aims to inform future nutritional strategies for frail elderly patients undergoing surgery for femur fractures.
