Process of Emergence and Implementation of Advanced Practice Nursing in France

What this Trial Is About

Researchers are conducting a long-term observational study focused on Advanced Practice Nurses (APNs) in France. This study follows three consecutive classes of advanced practice students and already graduated APNs to understand how the APN role evolves over time, including their scope of practice, economic impact, and geographical distribution. The study also explores how APNs settle and interact with healthcare colleagues and patients through interviews and observations. Participants include 700 APNs who have been practicing for more than six months in hospital settings, primary care, or private practice, as well as 900 students in their second year of APN training from 24 universities. The study collects data annually over several years using questionnaires and ethnographic methods to capture detailed information about the professional environment and practice implementation. Participants will provide information through questionnaires, interviews, and observations each year. Researchers will assess factors influencing APN implementation, map APN distribution, define APN roles, and identify the impact of advanced practice nursing over 48 months. The study offers insights into the development of APN roles in different healthcare settings, with no treatment or intervention involved, and participation lasts as long as the study duration.
