A Retrospective Real-world Study to Investigate Cardiovascular Risk Profile Among Newly Diagnosed Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Participants in Southeast Asia

This research aims to investigate the risk of cardiovascular disease CVD among people newly diagnosed with type 2 diabetes mellitus T2DM in Southeast Asia. It is a retrospective chart review conducted across five Southeast Asian countries, focusing on participants diagnosed between 2022 and 2023. The study examines the participants cardiovascular risk using data from the year before their diabetes diagnosis and approximately one year after diagnosis. Participants included in the study are those newly diagnosed with T2DM who have started anti-hyperglycemic treatment within the specified period. The study does not involve any treatment being given as part of the research. Instead, it collects and analyzes existing medical records to characterize the cardiovascular risk profile in this population. During the study, researchers review various cardiometabolic measurements at baseline, including blood pressure, waist and hip circumference, height, weight, cholesterol levels, HbA1c, fasting plasma glucose, kidney function tests, and classification into CVD risk categories. These measurements are taken from records closest to the time of diabetes diagnosis or within the prior 12 months. The study observes whether participants remain under follow-up for at least 12 months post-diagnosis to ensure complete data collection. The research is sponsored by Novo Nordisk AS and is expected to end in July 2026.
