What this Trial Is About
Researchers are evaluating the effects of a remotely delivered seated Tai ChiQigong TCQ program on heart and stress health among women aged 35 to 64 with mobility impairments. This study addresses the higher rates of obesity, cardiometabolic disease, chronic stress, sleep disturbances, and mental health issues experienced by women with mobility challenges. It aims to provide accessible, home-based health promotion interventions that overcome barriers to traditional exercise. Participants are randomly assigned to one of two groups for a 12-week intervention a seated Tai ChiQigong group or a health education video control group. The Tai ChiQigong group receives daily video sessions featuring gentle seated movements, breathing exercises, mindfulness, and relaxation techniques, while the control group views daily wellness videos unrelated to physical activity. The study includes a baseline assessment, the 12-week intervention, a 12-week unprompted phase, and a final follow-up assessment. Participants complete all study activities remotely from home over about 30 weeks, including online surveys, use of wearable devices, sleep diaries, and saliva sample collections. The research team measures waist circumference and physiological stress markers such as heart rate variability and salivary cortisol at baseline, post-intervention, and follow-up. Additional assessments include stress, emotion regulation, depression, anxiety, emotional eating, and sleep quality. Support and training are provided to help participants complete study procedures, aiming to develop scalable health interventions for women with mobility impairments.
