Researchers are evaluating how different communication strategies influence primary care physicians' performance and attitudes within the Primary Care Clinical Excellence (PCCE) Incentive Plan at UCLA Health. The study aims to understand which approaches best motivate physicians to improve quality in clinical care, professional participation, patient experience, and risk coding. This insight is intended to help implement effective performance-based programs nationwide. The study randomly assigns eligible physicians to one of three groups receiving quarterly emails and surveys over about one year. One group receives standard quarterly emails with general program information, another receives personalized report cards showing individual performance, and the third group receives personalized report cards plus information on how physician feedback shaped the program design. Each quarter, reminder emails are sent two weeks after the initial messages. Participants will complete surveys about their attitudes toward the program and workplace environment throughout the study. Researchers will measure physician engagement with resources, changes in performance in the PCCE program, program-related attitudes, and overall workplace feelings such as job satisfaction and burnout. The primary outcome is the rate of engagement with resources after the first email within one week, with other outcomes tracked up to 12 months. Analysis will consider physician characteristics and baseline performance to understand treatment effects.
