Options for Lowering the Threshold to Brussels Out-of-hours Primary Care Services for Dutch Speaking Citizens

What this Trial Is About

This research aims to identify technological translation tools that could improve access to out-of-hours primary care services for Dutch-speaking residents in Brussels, where most general practitioners speak French. The study focuses on addressing communication barriers that can reduce care satisfaction, quality, and safety. It involves exploring both obstacles and helpful factors related to using these tools during consultations with language differences between Dutch-speaking patients and French-speaking doctors. Participants include Dutch-speaking patients, Dutch- and/or French-speaking general practitioners, and representatives from relevant organizations and policy sectors. They will take part in one of four online focus groups, each lasting 60 to 90 minutes, to discuss and identify barriers and facilitators to the use of technological translation tools in out-of-hours primary care services for Dutch speakers. About 40 people will join these focus groups, which will be held online. During these sessions, the researchers will gather information on what helps or hinders the use of translation technologies in healthcare encounters involving language differences. The main outcome measured is the exploration of these barriers and facilitators, collected during the focus group discussions.
