What this Trial Is About

Researchers are evaluating SER Familia, a family-based program designed to reduce acculturative stress and build resilience among Latino immigrant families. The study aims to prevent or reduce a combination of health issues including substance abuse, intimate partner violence, HIV risk, depression, and anxiety by addressing stress related to cultural adjustment and strengthening family and community support. The trial seeks to understand how changes in individual, family, and community factors affect these outcomes. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of two groups: one group will attend six SER Familia sessions led by community health workers, which focus on reducing acculturative stress, promoting resilience, improving family health, and enhancing social networks and access to community resources. The other group will not receive these sessions. The intervention lasts six weeks. During the study, researchers will measure changes in parent and youth acculturative stress using the Hispanic Stress Inventory versions for adults and adolescents. They will also assess changes in individual resilience with the 25-item Resiliency Scale and overall health using the PROMIS Global Health measure from enrollment to the end of the six-week treatment. The study includes monitoring throughout the intervention period to evaluate these outcomes and participant experiences.
