What this Trial Is About

This research aims to explore the brain mechanisms behind gaming disorder, focusing on disrupted interpersonal interactions and cognitive control deficits that may promote its development. The study uses a prospective cohort design combined with brain imaging, cognitive testing, and social psychological assessments to better understand these effects. It also aims to develop a hierarchical multidimensional assessment and intervention system for high-risk groups to prevent and treat gaming disorder. Participants receive treatment using transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS), a non-invasive device known to regulate brain activity and improve cognitive functions like attention, memory, and decision-making. The study compares real tACS treatment with a sham (placebo) version to evaluate its effects on gaming disorder symptoms and cognitive control over a period including two and four-week assessments. During the study, participants undergo multiple evaluations including measures of craving triggered by cues, inter-brain synchronization, and cognitive function. These are assessed at two and four weeks to monitor changes. The trial is randomized and uses a quadruple masking design to ensure unbiased results. Participants may also receive science education, brief interventions, social psychological support, and cognitive rehabilitation as part of a combined approach to reduce gaming disorder progression.
