Leprosy is a chronic infectious disease caused by the Mycobacterium leprae bacterium, affecting the skin, nervous system, and other body systems. The disease presents different clinical forms based on the immune response of the patient, ranging from tuberculoid (paucibacillary) to lepromatous (multibacillary) types. This research focuses on studying the gene polymorphisms related to TGF-β1, a cytokine involved in immune response regulation and tissue healing, and its association with various clinical types of leprosy. The study involves measuring TGF-β1 gene polymorphisms in about 30 leprosy patients and 30 healthy participants. Researchers will analyze how these gene variations correlate with different types of leprosy before and after treatment. The investigation is observational, collecting data on the role of TGF-β1 in the immune response and disease progression. Participants will be assessed for serum TGF-β1 levels over one year. The study includes clinical evaluations and laboratory tests to monitor immune markers and disease status. Findings aim to improve understanding of leprosy's immunological mechanisms.
