What this Trial Is About
Researchers are conducting a nationwide survey in Thailand to understand the prevalence and risk factors of Hepatitis D Virus (HDV) infection among people at high risk, such as those with chronic Hepatitis B (HBV), people who use drugs, and those with HIV. The study aims to address the limited data on HDV in Thailand and how HDV and HIV may accelerate HBV disease progression, especially in individuals with low CD4 cell counts. Findings will help guide national strategies for HDV screening and treatment. The study involves observing groups including people with chronic HBV and cirrhosis, people who use drugs with HBV, and those co-infected with HIV/HBV or HBV/HCV. Participants are adults aged 18 years and older. The study does not involve any experimental treatments but focuses on collecting data through testing and surveys to assess HDV prevalence and related clinical factors. Participants will provide informed consent and be tested to confirm chronic HBV infection. Researchers will collect data on HDV prevalence, presence of HDV RNA, HDV subtypes, and the performance of commercial HDV testing kits over one year. The study will analyze these results to understand HDV's clinical significance and guide future screening and care. Participation involves providing samples and health information, with no investigational treatment given.
