What this Trial Is About
Behçet's disease is a systemic vasculitis of unknown cause that mainly affects young adults and can lead to serious complications involving the eyes, heart, and nervous system. This research evaluates the risk of increased blood clotting (thrombophilia) in patients with Behçet's disease who have vascular involvement, aiming to better understand the role of blood clotting in disease complications. The study compares patients with Behçet's disease to healthy individuals to explore factors contributing to blood clot formation. The study is a prospective case-control design including 100 patients diagnosed with Behçet's disease and 100 healthy controls matched by age and gender. Participants will undergo routine clinical evaluations and provide blood samples for genetic testing. The blood samples will be analyzed for specific genetic markers related to thrombophilia using advanced laboratory techniques including DNA isolation, PCR, and fragment analysis over a 15-month period. Participants will have their clinical features, medications, and recent skin and mucous membrane findings recorded. Blood samples will be collected during routine examinations and stored until analyzed in a specialized genetics laboratory. The primary outcomes include analysis of various gene polymorphisms related to blood clotting risk. The study runs from June 2023 to September 2024, with detailed genetic testing to better understand thrombosis risk in Behçet's disease patients compared to healthy individuals.
