What this Trial Is About

Researchers are evaluating different teaching methods for pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT) in healthy adult women. PFMT aims to improve the strength, endurance, power, relaxation, or coordination of pelvic floor muscles, which is important for urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, and fecal incontinence. The study compares four teaching approaches to learn correct pelvic floor muscle contraction and awareness, addressing a gap in evidence-based clinical practice. The study has four groups receiving different PFMT teaching models: brochure-based, verbal instruction-based, visual instruction-based, and external palpation-aided training. Each method provides education on pelvic floor anatomy and function, using various supports such as brochures, verbal cues, visual models, videos, and physical guidance. Training sessions involve imagery techniques and feedback to assist motor learning and muscle awareness. Participants will be assessed before training, immediately after, and one week later. Evaluations include bladder base movement during muscle contraction, ability to voluntarily contract pelvic floor muscles, pelvic floor awareness, and participant satisfaction. The study monitors muscle function and awareness changes over time. Participation is expected to last about one week with specific follow-up assessments.

Your Study Journey

Screening

Duration - 2 to 4 weeks

Participants are screened for eligibility to participate in the trial.

Treatment

Duration - Single session lasting approximately 30 minutes

Participants receive one of four pelvic floor muscle training models: brochure-based, verbal instruction-based, visual-aided, or external palpation-aided training. Training includes education about pelvic floor anatomy and muscle contraction using various teaching methods specific to each model.

1 baseline training visit (in-person)

Follow-up

Duration - 7 days

Participants are assessed immediately after training and again 7 days later to evaluate pelvic floor muscle function and participant satisfaction.

1 visit immediately after training and 1 follow-up visit 7 days later
