Study of Anxiety and Depression Patterns in Adult Cancer Patients and Factors Affecting Supportive Care and Decision Making

This research aims to examine how anxiety and depression symptoms change over the course of cancer and to identify various factors that may predict these changes. These factors include sociodemographic details like age and marital status, clinical features such as tumor location and treatment type, psychological aspects like coping strategies and fear of recurrence, and physical activity levels. The study also explores how these factors relate to the need for and use of psychosocial support services in cancer patients. Participants are adult oncology patients recruited from multiple centers. They are divided into two groups those showing symptoms of anxiety or depression at the start, and those without such symptoms. Data collection occurs at three points baseline diagnosis or treatment start, 3 months, and 6 months. Participants complete standardized questionnaires and undergo medical record reviews to assess psychological symptoms, coping, quality of life, cognitive difficulties, physical activity, nutrition, support needs, and decision-making related to cancer treatment. No experimental treatments are given. During the study, participants will be monitored through self-report questionnaires and medical record reviews at each time point to track symptom changes and associated factors. The main outcomes measured are anxiety and depression symptoms at diagnosis, early evolution at 3 months, and medium-term evolution at 6 months. This observational study helps understand psychological health trajectories in cancer patients and how supportive care is utilized. The total participation spans about six months from diagnosis or treatment initiation.
