Study Comparing Clear Aligners Versus Fixed Braces with Elastics to Treat Mild Class II Division 1 Malocclusion in Young Adults Aged 15 to 20

What this Trial Is About

This research aims to evaluate the effectiveness of clear aligners combined with intermaxillary elastics in treating patients aged 15 to 20 years who have Class II division 1 malocclusion with a mild increase in overjet. The study compares skeletal, dental, and soft tissue changes caused by this treatment against those seen with traditional fixed appliance therapy. It seeks to provide a detailed assessment of how these two approaches impact the correction of this specific type of malocclusion. Participants are divided into two groups one will receive clear aligners applied to both upper and lower arches along with Class II elastics worn from a precision-cut hook on the maxillary aligner to a button on the mandibular first molar. The other group will undergo traditional fixed multibracket appliance treatment with elastics attached from canine bracket hooks to the lower first molar after leveling and alignment are complete. Treatments will continue until a normal overjet and Class I canine relationship are achieved, expected within 4 to 6 months for the clear aligner group and up to 12 months for the fixed appliance group. During the study, participants will be monitored through various measurements including changes in angles and lengths related to jaw and teeth positioning, such as the SNA, SNB, ANB, and others, taken before treatment starts and once the targeted dental relationships are established. These evaluations aim to track the structural changes in the skeleton and teeth over time. The study uses a randomized design and single masking, and participation duration varies depending on the treatment group and progress toward treatment goals.
