What this Trial Is About

Researchers are evaluating whether a pre-recorded, on-demand webinar led by specialist dietitians can be as effective as traditional one-on-one dietitian appointments for adults newly diagnosed with coeliac disease. Coeliac disease is a serious lifelong condition where even small amounts of gluten can cause harmful symptoms and long-term health problems. The study aims to improve patient care and reduce pressure on dietetic services by providing immediate access to trusted dietary information through the webinar. Participants will be divided into two groups: one will receive the first dietitian appointment via the new on-demand webinar, and the other will have a traditional face-to-face or phone appointment with a dietitian. Both groups will receive comprehensive education about following a strict gluten-free diet, avoiding cross-contamination, and maintaining nutritional adequacy. They can complete baseline assessments and questionnaires before and after their dietary support, with follow-up evaluations at six months. During the study, participants will complete questionnaires measuring their knowledge of the gluten-free diet, their symptoms, adherence to the diet, and quality of life. Blood tests will be conducted to monitor health markers. The main outcome measured is the change in knowledge about the gluten-free diet from before the intervention, immediately after, and at six months. The study will also assess participant satisfaction with the support provided, with the goal of improving access to dietary support for people with coeliac disease.
