What this Trial Is About
This research aims to study the effects of virtual reality VR as a non-drug method to help manage pain, anxiety, and comfort in patients undergoing total hip arthroplasty THA, a surgery to improve quality of life. The study addresses common post-surgery issues like pain and anxiety which can delay recovery and increase chronic pain risk. Current drug treatments may cause side effects or dependency, so this trial explores VR as a supportive care option. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of two groups the experimental group will experience a 30-minute VR session during the first 48 hours after surgery, choosing from three calming nature scenes with soothing sounds while resting comfortably. The control group will receive standard care without VR. Both groups will be assessed twice during this acute phase using scales measuring pain intensity, anxiety, and comfort levels. During the study, participants will have their pain, anxiety, and comfort evaluated using the Visual Analogue Scale, State Anxiety Inventory, and Perianesthesia Comfort Scale before and after the VR or standard care sessions. The study will collect data face-to-face, focusing on the first 48 hours after surgery to understand VRs potential benefits. The overall duration includes the acute post-operative period with assessments at specific time points.
