What this Trial Is About
This research aims to understand bone and mineral abnormalities in patients who have recently undergone kidney transplantation. These abnormalities are linked to a higher risk of fractures, cardiovascular problems, and increased hospital stays. The study focuses on how these bone issues develop, their connection to vascular calcifications, and their impact on patient health over time, using non-invasive methods to improve diagnosis and management. The study includes detailed assessments using high-resolution peripheral quantitative CT scanning (HRpQCT) and bone densitometry (DEXA) to evaluate bone structure and density at various body sites shortly after transplantation, at 3 months, and annually. It also involves abdominal CT scans to detect vascular calcifications and tracks numerous biological markers related to bone and mineral metabolism. The study plans to follow these parameters for up to two years to observe changes and potential links with transplant outcomes. Participants will undergo imaging tests including DEXA and HRpQCT scans, along with blood and urine tests for mineral metabolism markers at specified intervals. Kidney biopsies performed as part of routine care will also be analyzed for fibrosis. The research team will measure changes in bone density, bone micro-architecture, and vascular calcifications over 1 and 2 years, while monitoring clinical and biological factors. This comprehensive approach aims to improve understanding and management of bone and vascular health after kidney transplantation.
