AI-Summary

What this Trial Is About

Researchers are evaluating the use of the Ceribell Delirium Monitor to improve the detection and management of delirium in adult patients admitted to the intensive care unit ICU. This pilot study compares a prospective intervention group using the Ceribell device with a retrospective control group, aiming to assess feasibility and potential differences in patient outcomes to guide a future randomized trial. Participants in the intervention group will undergo up to 12 hours of continuous EEG monitoring daily for up to 7 days using the Ceribell Delirium Monitor. If delirium is detected by the device, further assessments using the CAM-ICU tool will confirm its presence. A Delirium Trend Report generated by the device will be shared with the patients care team during morning rounds, and any changes in patient care will be recorded. The control group consists of patients from prior ICU stays whose data on delirium management and outcomes are collected retrospectively from medical records. During the study, participants will be monitored from ICU admission until discharge for up to 7 days. Researchers will evaluate the proportion of delirium cases detected outside the usual standard assessments and monitor any changes in delirium-directed treatments. Data collection includes continuous EEG recordings, CAM-ICU assessments, and documentation of clinical care decisions. The study aims to determine how the addition of the Ceribell monitor affects delirium detection and management in ICU patients.
