What this Trial Is About
Researchers are developing an automated risk assessment and cognitive screening tool designed to help primary care providers detect cognitive decline early in older adults. This tool aims to address the challenges primary care providers face in deciding who to screen and which assessment methods to use. The project focuses on older adults aged 60 and above, including Spanish-speaking individuals, and seeks to improve screening accessibility by integrating the tool into electronic health record systems. Participants in the study will use the Risk Assessment and Cognitive Screening (RACS) app, which includes answering risk assessment questions, completing a symbol matching task, and performing two voice tasks. The study specifically tests this tool in 100 Spanish-speaking older adults receiving care in primary care clinics. The project will evaluate the tool's effectiveness and user-friendliness, and findings will be incorporated into multiple electronic health record systems to enhance usability. During the study, participants will be assessed at baseline, 6 months, and 12 months to measure cognitive performance scores and usability of the app. Researchers will monitor cognitive changes and gather feedback from primary care providers about the tool's ease of use and usefulness. The total study duration for each participant is one year, with periodic visits to evaluate progress and outcomes.
