I Can Join the Fight Against Cancer: An Intervention to Programmatically Build Grassroots Actions to Reduce the Cancer Burden

What this Trial Is About

This research evaluates a community health education intervention called I CAN, designed to increase community-driven actions aimed at reducing the cancer burden in Western New York. The study focuses on engaging community members to help design effective programs, responding to calls from national to local leaders for stronger community partnerships in health intervention and policy development. The I CAN workshop aims to empower and motivate participants to take action against cancer in their communities. Participants will attend a single 2-hour I CAN intervention workshop. This session includes a presentation on social network processes and cancer burden, a structured skill-building activity, and activities designed to encourage momentum and excitement for community action. The workshop is intended to provide a formal process for community members to develop plans for cancer reduction efforts. During the study, researchers will assess the demand, practicality, and acceptability of the I CAN intervention over a period of up to two years. Participants' engagement and chosen topics for action within their I CAN plans will also be examined. The study involves surveys and other assessments to monitor these outcomes and gather feedback on the intervention's impact.
