What this Trial Is About

Researchers are evaluating two remotely delivered programs aimed at improving well-being among early childhood education (ECE) staff. This 15-month cluster randomized trial compares a Resilience program, which helps staff build resilience assets and resources, with a Physical Activity program focused on promoting healthy physical activity habits. The study includes 80 child care centers, 80 directors, and about 560 staff members. Participating centers are randomly assigned to either the Resilience or Physical Activity program. Both programs last 3 months and include four modules with video lessons, webinars, and text message reminders. A behavioral health counselor guides participants, providing orientation and coaching calls to center directors. After the active intervention, a 12-month maintenance period allows participants continued access to program materials. Participants will complete assessments at four timepoints: before the program starts, after 3 months, and at 9 and 15 months to track changes in resilience, well-being, mental health, social support, and organizational resources. The study measures absenteeism and staff turnover, and explores how personal and social factors may influence outcomes. The aim is to understand both immediate and lasting effects of these programs on ECE staff well-being.
