What this Trial Is About

Researchers are conducting a randomized controlled trial to evaluate an online self-help eCoaching intervention designed for caregivers of older adults in Hong Kong. This study aims to determine how the intervention affects caregivers' well-being, depressive symptoms, self-efficacy, stress management, and resilience compared to a control group receiving educational sessions. The trial involves adults providing care for family members aged 60 or older who require assistance for at least 6 hours per week. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of three groups: two intervention groups receiving online eCoaching based on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, lifestyle changes, and communication skills, and a control group attending online education sessions on lifestyle and communication. The intervention lasts for 6 weeks, with weekly sessions of less than 90 minutes. One intervention group receives general content, while the other receives content tailored to their specific caregiving needs. Caregivers will complete surveys and assessments at the start, immediately after the 6-week intervention, and at a 3-month follow-up. Measures include questionnaires on depression, anxiety, caregiver needs, burden, quality of life, resilience, and self-efficacy. Screening involves assessing caregiver needs and risk levels. Participation is voluntary, involves no medical treatments, and will not affect usual care. Data privacy is secured, and withdrawal is allowed at any time without penalty.
