What this Trial Is About
Frailty is a major risk factor for complications and functional decline after surgery, especially in older adults. This research aims to find out which frailty assessment tool best predicts postoperative complications in patients aged 70 and above. It compares several tools including the Risk Analysis Index, Clinical Frailty Scale, Groningen Frailty Indicator, Edmonton Frail Scale, and LUCAS-FI to improve preoperative risk evaluation during the premedication visit. The study observes older patients scheduled for surgery lasting at least 120 minutes. Frailty is assessed using multiple established tools before surgery without delivering any treatment or intervention. Researchers then compare these assessments to postoperative outcomes to identify which tool most accurately predicts complications. Participants will be monitored for complications within 30 days after surgery and assessed for various outcomes such as functional status, quality of recovery, muscle loss, delirium, length of hospital stay, discharge destination, cognitive state, quality of life, and frailty progression up to six months after surgery. The study involves detailed evaluations at different time points including days, weeks, and months following surgery to gather comprehensive data on recovery and frailty changes.
