What this Trial Is About
Substance use disorders SUDs are common and can cause serious health problems, but recovery is possible. Support from loved ones is important in recovery, though relationships can be strained by relapse and stigma. This study evaluates the KulaMind-Recovery platform, a web-based program designed to help loved ones support individuals in recovery by building healthy behaviors and self-regulation skills. The study aims to refine and test this intervention in a pilot open-label trial. The KulaMind-Recovery platform offers online educational and skill-building modules, one-on-one support from a coach through weekly group video sessions and on-demand text messaging, and access to a community forum to connect with others who share similar experiences. Loved ones use these AI-powered digital tools to learn and practice skills at their convenience. The study involves 30 pairs of individuals in early recovery and their loved ones, with loved ones accessing the platform for three months. Participants will be assessed at the start and after three months using tools measuring recovery capital, stigma related to substance use disorder, relationship satisfaction, substance use, knowledge about SUD and treatment, and self-efficacy to support recovery. The study will examine feasibility, acceptability, and early signs of effectiveness. All participants speak English, provide consent, and have regular access to a device for the intervention. The total participation lasts for three months with baseline and follow-up assessments.
