Researchers are investigating the early differential diagnosis of Parkinson's Disease by studying movement and voice patterns compared to healthy elderly individuals. This observational study compares three parametric approaches related to different neuromuscular programs, including voluntary hand or arm movements and vocal control. The study also examines eye-related changes in patients using non-invasive imaging techniques to support clinical diagnosis, acknowledging the limitations of not including more costly multimodal methods. Participants will perform three sets of tests focusing on scripted motor movements, voice characteristics, and larger amplitude motor gestures, each designed to capture different aspects of motor control. These tests take approximately 30 minutes in total. Additionally, participants will undergo retinal imaging where their pupils will be dilated using standard eye drops before measurements are taken. During the study, researchers will assess movement patterns using lognormal segmentation and collect retinal images through optical coherence tomography and other eye tracking methods. They will also use clinical rating scales and inventories to evaluate motor symptoms and oral motor function related to Parkinson's Disease. The study involves participants aged 50 to 75 years, including patients with Parkinson's, patients with atypical parkinsonian syndromes, and healthy volunteers, with ongoing monitoring planned through the study's duration until December 2028.
