AI-Summary

What this Trial Is About

Researchers are evaluating a pharmacogenomic and pharmacoepigenetic panel to predict heart damage caused by chemotherapy and immunotherapy in cancer patients, focusing on those with breast cancer. This study addresses the serious risk of cardiotoxicity, which can lead to heart dysfunction and failure, especially in patients treated with anthracyclines. Early prediction aims to prevent complications and reduce the health and economic burden associated with these treatments. The study will enroll 1,000 breast cancer patients aged 18 or older who are about to start cancer therapy with anthracyclines andor anti-HER2 therapies. Participants will be divided into cohorts based on whether they develop cardiotoxicity after one year of treatment. Various advanced genetic and biochemical analyses will be performed on blood samples, including exome sequencing, miRNA sequencing, protein and metabolite measurements, and oxidative stress markers. These analyses will help identify and validate genetic variants and molecular markers related to cardiotoxicity. Participants will be closely monitored for 12 months with heart assessments such as electrocardiograms, echocardiography with strain analysis, and blood tests measuring heart-related proteins and enzymes. Blood samples will be collected repeatedly for comprehensive molecular studies. The study aims to improve early detection of cardiotoxicity, support safer cancer treatment protocols, and optimize healthcare resources by reducing heart complications and hospitalizations related to cancer therapy.
